Day 1 – Viterbo
Arrival in Viterbo and accommodation in hotel or other facility. Guided tour retracing the ceramic history of Viterbo in its most significant places, from the Museo della Ceramica della Tuscia – Tuscia Ceramics Museum – to the Museo Civico Luigi Rossi Danielli – Civic Museum -.
Viterbo boasts a millenary tradition of ceramics, which started with the Etruscans, but it is in the Middle Ages that ceramics became very important, with the development of local workshops. It was the first city in Italy to have a statute regulating the activity of its ceramists. Thanks to contact with foreign craftsmen and centuries of experience, Viterbo became a creative hub for innovative techniques, first and foremost the ‘Zaffera’.
Free dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2 – Acquapendente
Breakfast at the hotel or other accommodation. Transfer to Acquapendente for a guided tour of the old town centre, the Museo Civico Diocesano – Diocesan Museum – and the Cathedral of the Holy Sepulchre and the ceramic works found throughout the city.
Free lunch and transfer to Torre Alfina to admire the contemporary art installations in the village streets and to visit the Castle.
Return to Viterbo, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3 – Civita Castellana
Breakfast at the hotel or other accommodation. Transfer to Civita Castellana for a guided tour of Forte Sangallo, home to the Museo Archeologico dell’Agro Falisco – Archaeological Museum of Agro Falisco – and the Cathedral.
Free lunch and visit to the Museo della Ceramica Casimiro Marcantoni – Ceramics Museum – with an activity in a ceramic workshop. This is followed by a meeting with craftsman Vincenzo Dobboloni for a demonstration at his workshop.
Return to Viterbo, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4 – Tarquinia
Breakfast at the hotel or other accommodation and transfer with luggage to Tarquinia. Meeting with the guide for a visit to the Museo della Ceramica d’Uso in Corneto – Museum of Ceramics in Corneto – inside the Palazzo dei Priori. The Museum houses three collections: the ceramics from the “butti” of the Palazzo de Priori, the Cultrera collection and the S.T.A.S. contemporary ceramic art collection.
Leaving the museum, the tour continues along the streets of the city, discovering ceramic works, workshops and art studios.
Free lunch. Departure and end of services.
