Schools and training

Francesco Orioli Artistic High School

It offers its students the opportunity to discover and delve into the world of ceramics, putting equal emphasis on tradition and experimentation. As early as the initial two-year course, students are confronted with the study of plastic forms and vase design, moving from modelling pieces using a potter’s wheel, a slab or casting to lathe moulding.

Students experiment with ancient decorative techniques, such as Etruscan bucchero and Greek friezes, archaic decorations, engobed graffito and chiselled terracotta, as well as more complex techniques such as decorating on enamel. Zaffera, a precious blue relief decoration that became established in Viterbo in the 15th century, is also studied.

A reference point in the field of training, the CNA system company designs and implements training courses also aimed at fostering generational change and processes of innovation and development in the ceramics sector. The first experiences were concluded with the issuing of qualification certificates in “ceramics operator” and professional qualification certificates in “ceramics designer 4.0” to unemployed young people.

Another important part of CNA’s work is offering training for companies to update their skills in new technologies and design.

Ceramic Art Workshop Estromania

Created by the Cooperativa Sociale Integra and promoted by the Cooperativa Sociale Agatos, which is active in the field of psychiatric rehabilitation, this workshop creates long-term training courses that provide students with specific skills and abilities in the field of ceramics.

The aim of this project was to facilitate the insertion of disabled people into employment and to foster social inclusion.

The workshop activity is intense and is producing important results. The Cooperative believes that ceramics, in its various stages of production, helps ‘to bring the student closer to what requires care, attention, patience and time. In this way, the conditions are created to facilitate responsibility towards the commitment to real work, in a gradual and protected way’.

The students of the Workshop participate with their artefacts in numerous events and are now among the protagonists of Buongiorno Ceramica! and Scarpette Rosse.
