Viterbo
Viterbo boasts a very long tradition in the field of artistic ceramics, which stretches as far back as the 13th century and which has also left traces in today’s urban fabric.
The proposed itinerary allows us to follow – through the places that in the past hosted some of the most significant events in the history of the ceramic tradition of this region – a true story, which starts within the city’s monuments and reaches the Museums, where the artefacts continue to tell us their story.
The Church of the Almadiani, the small temple of Santa Maria della Peste, and the Church of Santa Maria della Salute are the three starting points of our journey, which will end in the Museo della Ceramica della Tuscia and the Museo Civico. Included in this tour, of course, are the lunettes of the Sanctuary of Santa Maria della Quercia.
The tour would not be complete without a visit to the craft workshops, which are now a must for slow tourism.

If it is true that the passion for artistic ceramic work in Viterbo has never died out, it is also true that it has exploded in recent years, so much so that within the ancient city walls new workshops have been opened.
From the medieval district of San Pellegrino, in whose workshops the precious blue of the Zaffera shines, we set off on a tour that will let you discover the many ways of interpreting ceramics: not only the shapes and decorations that are part of the city’s historical and cultural heritage and in which there is always the strong personal imprint of the creator, but unique pieces of contemporary design that come to life from stylistic research and experimentation with new techniques and solutions.
Each stop is an opportunity to experience the magic of ceramic art through encounters with those who produce beauty every day. And, of course, to purchase high quality artefacts.
